WASHINGTON COUNTY COMMISSIONERS MEET TUESDAY

The Washington County Commissioners Court will be discussing a Memorandum of Understanding at their next meeting on Tuesday morning.

The Memorandum of Understanding is between the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the Washington County Jail, and the MHMR Authority of the Brazos Valley.

It concerns Senate Bill 1849, which is known as the Sandra Bland Act.

Under the terms of the M.O.U., MHMR will hire and provide the salary and benefits for a representative at the Washington County Jail.

Washington County is required to provide office space and equipment for the representative to carry out their tasks.

The MHMR representative is expected to come when scheduled by Jail Administration, which in this case would be Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm.

While at the jail, the representative is responsible to the chain of command.

Their MHMR duties include:

providing social behavior and cognitive rehabilitative intervention services as appropriate to inmates

inspect incoming prisoners’ medical screening for signs of mental illness, impairment, or intellectual disability and provide written assessment to magistrates

help identify and assist jail staff with incoming prisoners experiencing a mental health crisis

work with medical staff and doctors to ensure continuity of medication prescribed and feedback on the effects they have on inmates

and maintain inmate records.

The Washington County Commissioners Court meets Tuesday at 9am in their Chambers at the Washington County Courthouse.
