BRENHAM FIRE DEPT. RAISES OVER $55,000 AT FIREMAN’S FIESTA
The Brenham community came out in a big way over the weekend to support the Brenham Fire Department at its 54th Annual Fireman’s Fiesta.
According to early fundraising numbers from Brenham Fire Chief Roger Williams, the department raised about $55,780 from meal ticket sales, another $39,000 from auctions and $4,300 from a drawing. That adds up to over $99,000. Update @ 2:15 p.m.: Williams later clarified to KWHI that the $55,780 was the department's total gross income from meal ticket sales, auctions and a drawing, rather than meal tickets alone as he originally stated.
Williams is very thankful for the public’s continued support of the fire department.
In addition to Saturday’s meal and auctions, Friday had a great turnout for the cornhole tournament, as Williams said the number of teams doubled from last year. This was the second year the department has held a cornhole tournament, and he expects it will continue to grow in popularity.
Williams said the fundraiser greatly assists the department with equipment purchases and firefighter training.
On the horizon, Williams said the department will be working near the end of the month on getting the pre-build started for a new fire engine. Next month, the design process will start for the department’s planned second fire station at the intersection of James Nutt Boulevard and Handley Street. The design phase is expected to take 30 weeks, followed by another four to eight weeks for the bidding process and 12 months for construction.
