BLINN MEN’S SOCCER BEAT CAPITAL CITY MLS NEXT
Blinn College men's soccer history was made Tuesday as the Buccaneers earned the 50th victory in program history.
To reach the milestone, Blinn secured a 3-2 home win over MLS Capital City at Rankin Field inside Hohlt Park in Brenham, Texas.
The Bucs are now 4-1 overall.
Since its launch in the fall of 2018, Blinn has compiled a 50-41-5 record, with fifth-year head coach Michael McBride the owner of a 44-30-5 mark since his arrival in 2019.
The Bucs continued their winning ways against Capital City, racing out to a 3-0 lead before fending off the visitors for their third consecutive win.
"Capital City played very well this evening and helped us identify several areas we need to improve in before Region XIV play begins," McBride said. "We're still looking for a good 90 minutes from the team, and while we've shown flashes of what we can do, we need to be disciplined in our approach for a complete game both individually and collectively."
The first half of Tuesday's tilt was dominated by defense, as more than 40 minutes of play elapsed before either team found the scoreboard.
Blinn' Cesar Duran broke up the stalemate when the freshman forward turned an assist from sophomores Joe Loughnane (forward) and Toby Lansdowne (midfielder) into a goal in the 43rd minute.
Capital City outshot the Bucs 14-9. Blinn had a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Freshman keeper Noah LeMaster earned his fourth win of the season and split time with fellow freshman netminder Josh ffrench-Adam. LeMaster (58 minutes, 14 seconds of play) finished with six saves, while ffrench-Adam had two saves.
The Bucs continue their season with a rematch against Hill College at 7 p.m. on Friday at Rankin Field. Hill defeated the Bucs 3-1 on Aug. 19 in Hillsboro.
