The city says it has observed a growing challenge with the limbs, affecting the flow of traffic and the overall safety of roads.  It says tree limbs that grow out into streets and right-of-ways have become an obstacle for buses, refuse trucks, emergency vehicles and everyday commuters.

According to the city, many of the overgrown limbs originate from private trees on residential and commercial properties.

Officials ask property owners to ensure limbs extending into streets are pruned up to at least 13 feet, and farther if possible.  They also advise caution when working near right-of-ways or electric lines.
