ALTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL RECOGNIZED AS PROMISING PRACTICES PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITY AT WORK

  

Brenham ISD’s Alton Elementary School has been commended for its work in raising student achievement.

The school recently received a certificate from Solution Tree recognizing it as a Promising Practices Professional Learning Community (PLC) at Work® for its efforts in making a visible, positive impact on student learning.

PLCs are schools and districts in which educators realize that the key to improved learning for students is ongoing, job-embedded learning for the adults who serve those students.  Educators are called upon to focus on learning, build a collaborative culture and create a results orientation.

Alton Elementary School Principal Michael Ogg said a school’s fundamental purpose is “to ensure that all students learn at high levels,” and that a focus and commitment to that learning is “the essence of our school culture.”  He said, “Alton Elementary is honored to receive this recognition, but we know that our mission continues.”

Promising Practices schools are honored for building a strong foundation based on the PLC concepts, implementing those concepts for at least one to two years, and clear evidence of improved student learning over that period.  Once measurable results can be seen, the school must explain its practices, structures and culture before submitting an application for consideration by the PLC Review Committee.
