BRENHAM CUB FOOTBALL 2023 HALL OF HONOR CLASS ANNOUNCED

Four stars from Brenham’s noted football history will be enshrined in the 2023 Hall of Honor.

Jahn Finke, a two-time All-District split end; Dustin Moore, an All-State offensive lineman; Wes Mangan, an All-State tight end; and Kyle Mangan, a two-time All-State linebacker, will be enshrined at a luncheon on Friday, November 3.

Jahn Finke
Jahn played football and baseball at Brenham High School from 1985-88.
He was a three-year letter in football as a split end under coach Mark Elam, where he was awarded First Team All-District and All-Greater Houston honors twice.
Jahn was also an outfielder on the 1986, 1987 and 1988 State Champion Cub baseball teams.
After high school, Jahn graduated from Baylor University.
Jahn is a sales manager for Donjoy Orthopedics in the Greater Houston Area; and he currently lives in Pearland with his wife Jill and two sons, Jacob and Ryan.
In his spare time, he enjoys watching sports, being outdoors, and spending time with family and friends.

Dustin Moore

Dustin Moore
Dustin is a 2003 graduate of Brenham High School, where he was a three-year letterman in football.
Dustin earned All-District honors in his sophomore, junior and senior seasons; and was named to the All-State team in his junior and senior years.
During his junior season, the Cubs played three playoff games ending with a defeat at the hands of La Marque.
In Dustin’s senior year, he was on an offensive line for the Cubs, that included Chad Lechler, Wade Sisk, Blake Becker and Braden Maxwell, that averaged a mere 285 lbs. The Cubs were defeated his senior in the state championship game in 2002 in San Antonio by Denton Ryan.
Dustin went on to college at Harding Military Institute where he was a starter and then to the University of New Mexico, and finished his college career at Eastern Arizona. From there he played for the New Mexico Crush, a semi-pro team.
He currently lives in Bryan with daughter, Montana, and is a cook at Crestview Retirement Center.

Wes Mangan

Wes Mangan
Wes earned All-District and All-Region honors in both football and baseball.
As a junior, he led the Cubs to a 9-2 record as he completed 15 of 31 passes for 265 yards and also rushed for 110 yards.
In 2005, he moved to tight end his senior year and had 31 receptions for 492 yards and five touchdowns, helping Brenham win the District 18-4A championship with a perfect 7-0 record to cap a 10-0 regular season. The Cubs won their first 14 games, including the regional championship game over then No. 1 ranked La Marque before falling to Corpus Christi Calallen in the state semifinals.
Wes was named to the 69th annual Oil Bowl football game between Texas and Oklahoma high school all-stars.
After becoming one of the premier receiving tight ends in the state his senior year, Wes continued his football career at McNeese State from 2006-09. In his four year with Cowboys, he was a two-time All-Southland Conference selection, three-time conference champion (2006, 2007, 2009) and a member of the 2007 team that posted a perfect 11-0 regular season.
Currently, Wes ranks fourth all-time among tight ends with 67 catches and sixth with 664 receiving yards. His 12 career TD catches is a tight end record while ranking tied for seventh among all receivers.
In 2009, Wes was the winner of the Enos Derbonne Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship; and in 2018, he was named to McNeese’s All-75th Anniversary team.
Wes is a business owner in the oil and gas industry; and he currently lives in Old Washington with his wife, Lauren, and two boys, Bo (7) and Wyatt (5).

Kyle Mangan
A 2008 graduate of Brenham High, Kyle was a three-year starter for the Cubs earning first-team All-District honors at linebacker during his junior and senior years.
As a junior, he led the Cubs with 135 tackles, including 29 tackles for a loss, four sacks, two interceptions, one fumble forced and two recovered. He even scored a defensive touchdown.

Kyle followed it up his senior year with 97 tackles and nine sacks in addition to two interceptions on his way to back to back Texas Sports Writers Association All-State honors.
Kyle not only shined on the gridiron but also on the diamond.
During his senior year, he earned All-State and All-American honors after a season that saw him hit two home runs in Brenham’s final game to break Dustin Majewski’s 1999 record for home runs in a single season, finishing with 13 on the year. Kyle hit .403 with 12 doubles, three triples and 44 RBIs on the season. He also stole 20 bases.
On the mound in 2008, he went 9-4 with a 2.73 ERA. He struck out 77 batters in 69 1/3 innings, and threw seven complete games. Kyle was named the District 18-4A MVP.
Kyle signed a football scholarship with Texas A&M University, where the coaches quickly nicknamed him “Blue Bell” and “Ice Cream.”
At A&M, Kyle saw action in 38 games in 2009-11, tallying 93 total tackles, 2.5 sacks and two interceptions. He was named to CollegeFootballNews.com’s freshman All-America third team and ESPN.com’s Big 12 All-Freshman team in 2009.
Kyle met his wife of 10 years, Morgan, at Texas A&M and they have two kids Kyle Jr. “KJ” (9) and Sloane (8).

The luncheon will be in the Blinn College Student Center and begin at 11:30 a.m. The honorees will also be recognized prior to the kickoff of the Cubs vs. Lake Creek game that evening.

Brenham Cubs Football Hall of Honor committee members are Michael Groves, Jarvis Van Dyke, Tommie Sullivan, Charlie Matejowsky, Melvin Ehlert Jr., Jerry Newman, Val Kiecke, Randy Weidemann, Derek Hall, DeWayne Burnett and Danny Youngs.

Tickets are $25 and they are available from any member of the committee or at Brenham National Bank, Bank of Brenham, the Brenham ISD athletic office or the BISD administration office.
