RANDLE DEFEATS CUBS 52-28

Jakoby Dixon (Mark Whitehead)

It was a rough night on the gridiron for the Brenham Cub Football Team as they dropped their district opener to the Richmond Randle Lions 52-28.

The Cubs got the game started off on a good note. On the first play from scrimmage, Jordan Harvey completed a pass to Ivan Salazar, who then raced 75 yards to the end zone and put the Cubs up 7-0 just 11 seconds into the game.

The Lions' new QB Tyler Skrabanek, who transferred from Katy Tompkins, would then find Cortney Brown on a 36-yard touchdown pass to tie the score at 7-7 with 7:27 left in the first quarter.

Brenham went back in front on a 39-yard touchdown run by Jaylon Ward with 57 seconds left in the first quarter to make it 14-7.

The defenses controlled the second quarter for the first eight minutes. However, in those last four minutes, Skrabanek would find Landen William-Callis on a 34-yard touchdown pass, and Jaxon Montelongo on a 9-yard touchdown pass to put Randle ahead 21-14 going into the locker room at halftime.

On the opening drive of the third quarter, the Lions ate up 5:07 of clock time, and then scored on a six-yard run by Sincere Timpson to extend the lead to 28-14.

The Cubs countered their own drive that went 6:37, and ended on a one-yard touchdown run by Jordan Harvey to cut the lead to 28-21 with 16 seconds in the third quarter.

The fourth quarter turned into a nightmare for Brenham. Skrabanek found Jaydon Osborn on a touchdown pass to make it 35-21 at the 7:21 mark.

Christian Munguia hit a 42-yard field goal to increase the lead to 38-21 with 5:57 left in the game.

Brenham got back on the scoreboard as Harvey found Jakoby Dixon on a touchdown pass to make it 38-28.

The Cubs recovered an onside kick, but Harvey as he was trying to escape would-be tacklers, threw an interception that Randle's Ja'Quin Parker returned for a pick-six to pad the lead to 45-28.

The Lions then added one last touchdown on a 47-yard run by Sean Smith to make it 52-28.

Brenham drops to 2-4 on the season, and 0-1 in district. Next week, they are back at home to face Montgomery. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm. KWHI will have live coverage beginning with the pregame at 7pm.
