BRENHAM FIRE CHIEF RESIGNS; ASST. CHIEF TO RETIRE OCT. 27
The City of Brenham is determining the next steps for the fire department after the resignation of its fire chief and the upcoming retirement of its second-in-command.
KWHI has confirmed that Fire Chief Roger Williams submitted his resignation on Monday, effective immediately. The reason for Williams’ resignation is currently unknown.
KWHI reached out to Williams for information, but he said he has no comment at this time.
Williams joined the fire department in September 2019 as the interim fire marshal, accepting a full-time position as fire marshal and assistant fire chief in February 2020. In October 2021, he was named interim fire chief after former chief Ricky Boeker was fired in April of that year. Williams was promoted to full-time chief in January 2022.
Separately from Williams, Assistant Chief Brian Scheffer is retiring at the end of the month. His last day is October 27th. The timing of Scheffer’s retirement and Williams’ resignation is not believed to be related.
Scheffer started at the fire department in May 1997 as a volunteer and was promoted to apparatus operator in July 2000. He advanced to captain in September 2012 and took on his current role three years later. He was twice named the department’s firefighter of the year, in 2001 and 2008.
The Brenham City Council has called a special meeting on Friday to consult with an attorney regarding the fire department and associated legal matters. The meeting will be held at 10 a.m. at Brenham City Hall.
How to keep good Firefighters from leaving the job? Well first thing I would not have my cart in front of my horse. Why are these departments not the same? We should have a regular ambulance transport service working the hospitals and old folks transport. Someone said we have a world class EMS and we do but at what cost? 5.6 million nope last years news 9.66 yep getting pretty close to 10 million and why? So they can sit in the truck and wait till the firefighters have it under control? Where is the new fire station be about ten years in the making . Nope the Fire station is at the old police station. New EMS being built now one of eight and all pretty new. Why do the VFD have to beg for funding? Let me know how its comes out when the paramedics put out the fire or extract someone with the jaws of life. Fair funding for all departments of the county put it to a vote. No reason Fire Department and EMS can’t be combined. This practice has been going on nation wide for sometime now.
Is this Mr.Fisher’s fault too? Seems to be the common response anytime something happens. Add another lawsuit to the city under the current city manager and her click. A lot of good people have been run off or resigned under her management. Think it’s time to take a look at what needs to be done. Brenham deserves better.
This City Manager is 100 times better than Fisher ever was.
I would like to thank the City Council, City Management, and the citizens of Brenham and Washington County for allowing me to serve you. It has been an honor and privilege to serve you for 26 years. I will be continuing my Fire Service Career as a Regional Training Coordinator for Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) and I look forward to continue my service to Brenham and Washington County in this new role. I wish nothing but the best to the Brenham Fire Department and the City of Brenham. Take care and God bless the Brenham Fire Department.
See u Brian u were a real one
Thank you for your service to our community and to our state. God bless you and your family for your sacrifice and commitment. We appreciate you! 🙏❤️
The Chief was trying to make the department better and was doing a good job. He wasn’t a yes man and when you try to do things that need to be done, City Officials wouldn’t let him or give the funding. It’s funny how City Management has their click and create jobs for her own good. This needs to be looked into by City Council with out City Management present. The click need to be broke up. Time for another good house cleaning.
This City/County has some real problems in the local government. Transparency is like a barrel of used motor oil.
The city of Brenham leaders has taken one of the Better known, well respected and represented Fire Departments in the state of Texas and turned it into a mess, and in the process ran most members off that gave their whole life along with their families included to the service of the community the love!
Hey Spectator; What’s Burning in the Kitchen?
Why would you need a special meeting with an attorney to discuss legal matters just because someone resigns?
Exactly!!!!
Yep…
