DARIUS SMITH APPOINTED WASHINGTON CO. PRECINCT 3 CONSTABLE

Darius Smith

Washington County Commissioners voted after an executive session today (Tuesday) to appoint Darius Smith as the county’s Precinct 3 Constable.

The interim appointment follows last month’s announcement of former Precinct 3 Constable David Blakey that he would run for county sheriff, requiring his resignation from the constable’s post.  Smith will serve out the remainder of Blakey’s term, which expires next year.

Smith began his law enforcement career with Citizens on Patrol for the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, later becoming a deputy.  He is currently a police officer for Blinn College.

Smith says he is grateful for the confidence placed in him to serve in this role.

Two candidates have declared their intent to run for Precinct 3 Constable in the March 2024 primary: Damon Wegner, retired sergeant/investigator and current reserve deputy with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office; and Brad Kuecker, a sergeant for the Precinct 1 Constable’s Office.  Both will run as Republicans.
