BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO CONSIDER TAX PHASE-IN AGREEMENT

The Brenham City Council will potentially adopt a commercial tax phase-in agreement for a downtown business when it meets on Thursday.

The agreement is for 209 South Market Street, which is being modernized to become The Southern Folly, an entertainment and meeting venue and bar.  The building has had several items of maintenance work done, including masonry, window/door sealing, repairing the fire suppression system and repairing the patio, wood flooring and interior walls.

The total capital investment in the project is estimated at $185,000, and the business is expected to have 10 employees.  The council approved the previous piece to this agreement, the creation of a reinvestment zone, during its meeting on September 21st.

Also on Thursday, the council will look to purchase a street roller from Mustang CAT for the city’s street department.  The item was originally asked for replacement in the 2022 Fiscal Year, but was pushed back a year to make sure the budget was met.  The purchase would be for $62,900.

In other business, the council will consider approving the annual Routine Airport Maintenance Program (RAMP) grant agreement with TxDOT for Fiscal Year 2024, regarding maintenance items at the airport.  It will also accept a bid for an annual contract for concrete work.

The council will meet Thursday at 1 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.

  1. 209 S Market St as a reinvestment zone? Nothing has changed since it was the closed down from the four star bar. Last time I drove by it was a flower shop with an apartment upstairs. How. can I get a reinvestment tax credit on my house too?
