BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO DISCUSS RAISING PARKS AND REC FEES AT NEXT MEETING

The Brenham City Council is holding their next regular meeting this coming Thursday.

One of the items on the agenda will be a resolution adopting a new fee schedule for the City of Brenham’s Parks and Recreation Facilities and Programs.

During the 2023-2024 budget meetings, the Parks and Recreation staff was tasked with looking at facilities and rates that are charged throughout the parks in order to narrow the gap between expenses and revenues.

They are proposing a City Resident Fee and a Non-City Resident Fee. For adults, the daily rate would be $5 for City Residents, and $8 for Non-City Residents. For children, the daily rate would be $3 for City Residents, and $5 for Non-City Residents.

The other rates at the Aquatic Center will go up across the board as well.

City staff project that the fee increases will raise at or around an additional $100,000 in additional revenue.

According to the summary statement in the council’s agenda packet, it has been five years since the rates were increased at the Aquatic Center.

During that time, they have experienced much higher chemical costs, had to increase part time rates to stay competitive with other businesses, and are paying higher rates on maintenance and services to keep the facility in shape.

Currently, the Aquatic Center has a $1.1 million operating budget with revenues coming in at just $315,000.

The sports fields and park facilities are also going to be seeing rate increases as well.

Other items on the agenda for the meeting include:

Electing members to the Washington County Appraisal District Board of Directors,

Purchasing lime for the City of Brenham Water and Wastewater Utility System,

And awarding a bid for drainage improvements at the corner of Progress Drive and Valley Drive.

The Brenham City Council meets Thursday at 2pm at City Hall.
