DEADLINE DEC. 11 TO FILE AS CANDIDATE FOR PRIMARY ELECTIONS

  

Prospective candidates in the Republican and Democratic primary elections on March 5th have less than two weeks to file for a spot on the ballot.

In Washington County, elected offices that will be up for election next year include the county attorney, district attorney, sheriff, tax assessor-collector, county commissioner for Precincts 1 and 3, and county constable for Precincts 1-4.  The deadline to file for candidacy is Monday, December 11th.

According to the Washington County Elections website, candidates who have submitted treasurer’s reports with intent to file for office and be placed on the ballot include:

District Attorney

  • Derek Estep (R)
  • David Bunger (R)

Sheriff

  • David Blakey (R)

Commissioner Precinct 1

  • Don Koester (R)(i)
  • Misti Corn (R)

Commissioner Precinct 3

  • Kirk Hanath (R)(i)
  • Billy Ruemke (R)

Constable Precinct 1

  • Ken Holle (R)(i)

Constable Precinct 3

  • Brad Kuecker (R)
  • Damon Wegner (R)

Constable Precinct 4

  • Greg Rolling (R)(i)

Current County Attorney Renee Mueller has made her plans known to run for re-election in 2024.  Incumbents who have announced their intent not to seek another term in their present positions include District Attorney Julie Renken (R), Sheriff Otto Hanak (R) and Precinct 2 Constable Trey Holleway (R).  David Blakey stepped down from his role as Precinct 3 Constable in order to run for sheriff; Dairius Smith is serving out the remainder of Blakey’s term.

Tax Assessor-Collector Cheryl Gaskamp (R) has not yet publicly announced plans to run for re-election.
