TWO TRANSPORTED AFTER MAJOR CRASH ON HIGHWAY 105
Two people were hospitalized with suspected serious injuries after an accident Wednesday afternoon along Highway 105 in Washington County.
The two-vehicle accident was reported around 2 p.m. near Wiesepape Road.
According to DPS Sergeant Justin Ruiz, a 2007 Toyota 4Runner was traveling eastbound on Highway 105, while a 2004 Dodge pickup was traveling westbound. Ruiz said the Toyota was driving on the wrong side of the road – not passing – and struck the Dodge.
Among those at the scene were the Meyersville and Prairie Hill Volunteer Fire Departments, Brenham Fire Department, Washington County EMS ground and air units, and Citizens on Patrol. Firefighters extricated the drivers who were entrapped in their vehicles, and Washington County EMS took over care of them.
The two drivers were transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan. No passengers were in the vehicles.
Traffic was rerouted while authorities worked to clear the scene of the crash. The roadway was re-opened around 4:30 p.m.
For the complainers who think the EMS program is too expansive and Washington County does not need a helicopter this accident proved the worth of both programs. The Washington County Commissioners should be applauded for having the vision and insight to create and fund the EMS and Fire/Rescue programs. The Washington County EMS and Helicopter along with Meyersville / Brenham Fire/Rescue worked flawlessly to provide immediate care and get the patients out and onto high level care within minutes yesterday. Meyersville VFD and Prairie Hill VFD worked to keep the scene responders safe and rerouted traffic. A Yeoman’s job to all the responders yesterday.
