BURTON SCHOOL BOARD HEARS UPDATES
The Burton School Board heard an update on the bond issue at their meeting Monday evening. Stad Tomlinson from DSA Construction Management had to stop halfway into his report by questions from Board Members Demetrius Colvin, Sr. and Dean Fuchs, and several people who were in attendance. They asked about the report that said 31 percent of the balance had been paid, but that didn’t mean 31 percent of the project was complete. They wanted to know what exactly had been paid and what was complete. More specifically, what had the first site developer, Circle 8 Construction been paid, what did they return, and what had the second site developer, Champion Construction been paid. The report did not have this. Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy said she would have the numbers by the next School Board Meeting.
The remainder of the meeting was mostly made up of reports, including the Elementary and Junior Beta Club State Convention Participants Presentation and the Principals, Athletic Directors, and Superintendents reports. One bit of knowledge came to light on the Superintendents Report. She said that the SROs make house calls. Specifically, the officers go to the home to make sure the student is there, both after school and before school. This helps with keeping the kids honest, both for school attendance and athletic eligibility.
After a 1 hour and 25-minute Executive Session, the board took no action on the Evaluation, Contract, and Salary of Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy. The next School Board Meeting is scheduled for Monday, February 12 at 6:00 PM. Notices and Agendas are posted outside of the Administration Office.
