HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD APPROVES OUTDOOR IMPROVEMENTS AT PIONEER SMOKEHOUSE

The Brenham Historic Preservation Board on Wednesday granted a downtown restaurant’s request to make improvements to its outdoor cooking area.

The board approved a Certificate of Appropriateness (CoA) application from Pioneer Smokehouse and Mercantile, 309 South Park Street.

The restaurant wishes to build a simple structure around its outdoor smoker trailer after receiving notification in November that health code now requires the smoker to be enclosed.  The intent is to build the structure so it can be easily roofed with weathered tin and screened with metal screening.  The bottom half will be completed with weathered tin to match the surrounding buildings.

The application also includes plans to add a covered deck adjacent to the smoker using matching materials, serving as a covered seating area.

In other business, the board planned to elect a chairperson and vice chairperson for a one-year term.  However, as not all members were in attendance, the item was tabled and will come back at the next meeting.
