CANNERY KITCHEN TO HOST JAMES EMERSON DENNIS JR. MEMORIAL BLACK HISTORY SERIES
The public is invited to observe Black History Month at a series of programs held at the Cannery Kitchen in Brenham.
The James Emerson Dennis Jr. Memorial Black History Series will take place each Monday during February, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
The series opens on Monday, February 5th with “How Shall We Sing the Lord’s Song in a Strange Land?” Dr. Wash Jones of St. John AME Church and Arthur Curry of Mt. Rose Missionary Baptist Church will lead a night of psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.
On Monday, February 12th, the James Emerson Dennis Jr. Black History Club at Brenham High School will present “Voices of Youth”, featuring high school instructors Jason Barber and Donna Williams.
The program on Monday, February 19th will be one on ancestral education. Dr. Robert Bubb of Auburn University, whose enslaved ancestors were brought to Washington County by the Old Three Hundred, will discuss the role they played in building Brenham.
The series will conclude on Monday, February 26th with a political forum hosting several candidates in the March 5th Republican primary, including candidates for sheriff, Precinct 1 and 3 commissioner, Precinct 3 constable, district attorney and state representative.
Each event is free and open to all who wish to attend.
