FORMER KWHI NEWS DIRECTOR, TV METEOROLOGIST DAVE DICKSON PASSES AWAY
A former KWHI news director who went on to become a well-known TV meteorologist has died.
Dave Dickson passed away Sunday at his home in Brenham after a brief illness. He was 70 years old.
Dickson led KWHI’s news department in the late 1970s after starting his 30-year career in broadcasting at WFAA in Dallas. Following his time at KWHI, he accepted a position at KBTX in Bryan and later worked at TV stations in Beaumont, Austin and Houston.
A profile story from KVUE, where Dickson worked as a meteorologist and reporter from 1979 to 1986, recalls him as a versatile journalist and trusted weatherman who was well-liked by all of his colleagues.
Dickson’s career as a weathercaster also included stops at Houston TV stations KPRC and KRIV, as well as News8 Austin.
He and his wife, Jennifer, would eventually leave Texas for Colorado, living there until they decided to move recently to Brenham.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham. A celebration of life is planned this fall in Austin prior to the start of the World Series, as baseball was one of Dickson’s favorite pastimes.
