CUBETTES SPLIT FINAL GAMES OF LEADOFF CLASSIC
The Brenham Cubette Softball Team split their final two games of the Leadoff Classic at Alumni Field.
LIBERTY 10 BRENHAM 3
Liberty jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
In the bottom of the inning, Avery Maurer led it off with a single, and promptly stole second. Halle Scheel reached on an error by the third baseman, which also allowed Maurer to score and tie the game 1-1. Kaylyn Rodriguez bunted Scheel over to third. Sarah Mabie struck out, the catcher dropped the ball, but then threw to first to complete play, which also allowed Scheel to score from third to put Brenham in front 2-1.
Liberty tied it 2-2 with a run in the top of the second. They added two runs in the third, four runs in the fourth, and two in the sixth to extend their lead to 10-2.
Brenham would get on run back in the bottom of the 6th. Maurer singled, and two batters later, Mabie brought her home with a triple to make it 10-3.
Della Jasinski (2-1) took the loss in the circle.

The Cubettes got the scoring started in the bottom of the second inning. Annie Beckendorf led it off with a double, and then advanced to third on a passed ball. Kinley Antkowiak singled her home to make it 1-0 Brenham. Nevaeh Holmes courtesy ran for Baker, and scored on an RBI single by McKenzie Tiemann to increase the lead to 2-0.
In the fourth inning, Kaylyn Rodriguez and Sarah Mabie had back-to-back doubles to add to the Cubette lead and make it 3-0.
In the bottom of the fifth, Brenham then exploded for six runs. Baker drew a one-out walk, Liliana Gonzales came in to run for her. Nevaeh Holmes followed with a pinch-hit, RBI double that scored Gonzales. Tiemann followed with a single. Holmes and Tiemann both came home on a two run double by Maurer, which made it 6-0 Brenham.
Scheel would pick up her third single, and then Kaylyn Rodriguez followed with a two-run double that brought in Maurer and Scheel. Rodriguez scored later in the inning on a passed ball to make it 9-0.
Danbury scored their only run on a sacrifice fly in the 6th cut the lead to 9-1.
Kylie Baker (3-0) went the distance to get the win. The Cubettes are now 6-1 to start the season.
