BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO DISCUSS CITY CHARTER, VOTE ON SECOND READING OF IMPACT FEES
The Brenham City Council will hold a special meeting on Thursday to review the city’s charter and perform the second reading of the impact fee ordinance that was approved unanimously last week.
The council will hold a work session to discuss the charter, which is the legal document that establishes a home-rule city’s powers and form of government. The charter sets the boundaries of the city limits, provides for councilmember wards and designates appointive offices like city manager, city secretary and city attorney.
The charter must be reviewed every five years for any possible revisions or updates. It was last reviewed in 2020 and last amended in 2015.
Once in regular session, councilmembers will vote on the second reading to adopt impact fees, which are imposed on developers to generate revenue or make up costs of capital improvements or facility expansions for new development. The fees will help the city fund its planned water/wastewater infrastructure improvements and cut down on what existing residents pay toward them by sharing costs associated with the new development.
The council will meet Thursday at 1 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.
