WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO VOTE ON HIGHWAY 105 GATEWAY MONUMENT AGREEMENT WITH TxDOT

Washington County Commissioners will take the next step on Tuesday in building a new entrance monument into the county.

Commissioners will vote on approving and executing an agreement with TxDOT to build a gateway monument on Highway 105, just under a mile east of FM 1155 at the boundary of Washington and Grimes counties.

The court moved on December 5th to approve an agreement with the Washington County Chamber of Commerce for the brick welcome sign.  The county will work with TxDOT on behalf of the Chamber, since the Chamber cannot do so directly, but the Chamber will incur all costs of the gateway monument, including future maintenance.

Also on Tuesday, commissioners will possibly accept a request for qualification (RFQ) for a wildlife manager in Washington County’s school land in Tom Green County.  Commissioners went out for RFQs on January 16th, but tabled the item at their most recent meeting.  County Judge John Durrenberger said last month that the county is dividing the usage of the land between grazing and hunting, so the wildlife manager would help with the hunting aspect of the land.

Money collected from the land, aside from what is spent on general upkeep expenses, is disbursed annually to Brenham and Burton ISDs based on average daily attendance.

In other business, commissioners will:

  • Hear monthly reports from the sheriff’s office, county and district clerks, justices of the peace, auditor, tax assessor-collector, treasurer, constables, elections and veterans service officer.
  • Consider renewing the interlocal cooperation contract for the failure to appear program.
  • Act on a final plat for the Conner Crossing subdivision, consisting of six lots along Conner Road and Sweed Road in Precinct 1.
  • Potentially approve appointments to the Homeland Security Advisory Committee: Burton ISD, Jonathan Purvis; Brenham ISD, Brittni Kalich; City of Brenham, Kevin Schmidt; Blinn College, Michael Welch.
  • Discuss a formal notice for fiber installation by Industry Telephone Company in the Old Loewe Lane right-of-way in Precinct 4.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.
