COLLEGE STATION MAN GETS 20 YEARS IN PRISON

Cory Middleton (Grimes County Jail)

A College Station man that authorities say has an extensive criminal history was sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to a third-degree felony charge of Evading Detention in a vehicle.

35-year-old Cory James Middleton received the sentence on Monday after entering a guilty plea before 506th District Court Judge Gary Chaney.

The sentence was part of a plea agreement worked out with District Attorney Andria Bender.  Middleton’s punishment was enhanced due to his criminal history.  He also has additional charges that are still pending in Brazos County.

The charge dates back to March 16, 2023.  Grimes County Sheriff’s Deputy Braden Copeland initiated a traffic stop on Highway 30 in central Grimes County.

The vehicle had been under surveillance by DPS for illegal activity.

Deputy Copeland pulled the vehicle over and made contact with the occupants.  Middleton identified himself as the driver.

While talking to Copeland, Middleton took off, and a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit went from Highway 30 to FM 244 toward Iola, with speed reaching in excess of 100 mph.

Middleton’s vehicle ended up driving through a fence on County Road 103 near Iola.  It was later located on County Road 109, where the suspects had abandoned it, and fled on foot.

Sheriff’s Office Investigators discovered methamphetamine in the truck after conducting a search.
