BURTON SCHOOL BOARD TO DISCUSS SUPT. POSITION

The Burton School Board will gather after Spring Break to take up several items regarding the district’s superintendent position.

Listed on the agenda for next Tuesday, March 19th are discussion and possible action items outlining a “voluntary retirement agreement with superintendent of schools”, “approve Powell Law Group to conduct superintendent search”, “presentation by Dr. Danny Lovett [of Powell Law Group] regarding superintendent search”, and “approve contract with interim superintendent.”

The contract of current Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy, who joined Burton ISD in 2015, is slated to end on June 30th.  Trustees took no action on extending her contract at their meeting last month.

Burton ISD Business Manager Caitlyn Blakey-Staal said not much further can be shared at this time, and that most of this will be worked out at the meeting.  She noted that discussions about the details will likely take place in executive session.

In other business, trustees will consider the proposed 2024-25 school calendar and certification of the provision of instructional materials for next school year.  They will also hear standard administrative reports and a bond project update.

The board will meet Tuesday, March 19th at 6 p.m. in the Burton High School auditorium.
