BURTON CITY COUNCIL TO DISCUSS POTENTIAL MORATORIUM ON NEW DEVELOPMENT
The Burton City Council will take up talks on Tuesday about a possible moratorium on new buildings, development and utility connections in the city’s service area.
The discussion is prompted by the city’s aging water and sewer infrastructure. While the city did report progress last month in finding and rectifying water loss issues, it says the water system is still near its capacity.
Part of the council’s conversation will include evaluating the possibility of hiring an engineering firm to assess the city’s future water and wastewater system needs.
In other business, the council will hold a public hearing on the city’s 2024-25 general and water/sewer budgets before voting on their adoption. It will also consider road repairs to complete in 2024 and cancel the city’s May 4th general election due to having no contested races.
In addition, councilmembers will consider an engagement letter from Medack & Oltmann, LLP to perform the annual audit of the Fiscal Year ending March 31st. They will then review the Washington County Appraisal District’s proposed 2024-25 budget.
The council will meet Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Burton City Hall.
