BURLESON CO. WOMAN DEFRAUDED OF NEARLY $30,000
The Burleson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after an elderly Burleson County woman had nearly $30,000 stolen from her in a felony fraud case.
According to Burleson County Chief Deputy Bill Rios, a woman who the victim knew and trusted gained access to the victim’s account at Citizens State Bank in Caldwell by forging her signature on a letter and submitting it to the bank.
The incident was reported on March 6th after the victim discovered numerous, unauthorized transactions on her account, totaling $29,379.
Rios said a deputy spoke at the bank with the victim, who said that total included a check for $5,000 written out with the forged signature from her to the woman, as well as an electronic transfer for $10,361 paid to Ford Motor Company for a car note. The remainder was from several, miscellaneous electronic withdrawals.
Rios said the sheriff’s office is working on obtaining a warrant for the suspect, who was not identified. At this time, there are no other people believed to be involved.
The incident remains under investigation, but Rios expects there will be movement with this case in the near future.
