GRIMES CO. MAN SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT OF 15-YEAR-OLD, ASSAULTING PREGNANT GIRLFRIEND

A Grimes County man was sentenced on Monday after pleading guilty to sexual assault and domestic violence charges.

Michael Oaks
(Grimes Co. Jail)

23-year-old Michael Laderrick Oaks received 10 years in prison for Sexual Assault of a Child and 4 years in prison for Assault of a Pregnant Person.  He will also be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

The charges come from two separate incidents.  The first occurred in April 2022, after Navasota police received information that Oaks had sexual relations with a 15-year-old female.

According to the Grimes County District Attorney’s Office, the victim met with police and confirmed he engaged in sexual activity with her at an apartment complex in Navasota after a party.  The victim also said Oaks knew she was underage at the time.

Investigators interviewed Oaks in March 2023.  Oaks confessed to the act and was indicted that month.

The second incident took place in September 2023, while Oaks was out on bond for the sexual assault.  The district attorney’s office says Oaks assaulted his pregnant girlfriend by striking her in the face during an argument.

Oaks pleaded guilty to both charges on March 18th in 12th District Court.  He is currently in the Grimes County Jail awaiting transfer to prison.
