LAKE CREEK RALLIES TO DEFEAT CUBS 5-3

Grady Gee (Mark Whitehead)

The Brenham Cub Baseball Team appeared on the verge of upsetting Lake Creek last (Tuesday) night, but one bad inning allowed the Lions to escape with a 5-3 victory.

The Cubs got it started with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Brady Rau was hit by a pitch to begin the game. The next batter up, Tanner Reese slugged a double into left field. Caleb Maurer came on to courtesy run for Reese. Grady Gee brought Rau home with an RBI single, and then Maurer scored on a steal of home to make it 2-0.

Brenham would add another run in the top of the second inning. Braydon Goss led if off with a single, and came around to score on an RBI single by Rau to give the Cubs a 3-0 advantage.

Luke Hardy did a masterful job on the mound through the first four innings, facing just one batter over the minimum.

However, in the bottom of the fifth, Lake Creek came up with five runs off of three hits, a walk, and two Cub errors to take a 5-3 lead.

Harper Heathcott picked up the win, and Parker Smith closed it out in the seventh for the save.

The series shifts back to Fireman's Park for the Cubs' Seniors Night and final home game on Friday at 7pm. KWHI will have live coverage beginning with the pregame at 6:35pm.
