134TH MAIFEST KICK-OFF PICNIC WEDNESDAY
The 134th Brenham Maifest officially opens tonight (Wednesday) with the Friends of Maifest Kick-off Picnic.
The picnic, which begins at 6 p.m. at the Fireman’s Park pavilion, honors the sponsors and volunteers that make Maifest possible each year. Tonight’s activities will include music, a children’s Maipole dance and a ribbon cutting.
KWHI will have a live broadcast from the picnic starting at 5:45 p.m. on AM 1280, FM 101.7 and kwhi.com.
The carnival opens tomorrow (Thursday) at 5 p.m. at Fireman’s Park and runs through Saturday.
Tickets for the coronation ceremonies on Friday and Saturday can be purchased at www.brenhammaifest.com. The Senior Coronation will be Friday at 7 p.m., and the Junior Coronation will take place on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. A clear bag policy will be in effect for those who attend.
The Junior Royalty of Caroline Adele Kenjura and Tyler Henry Hopkins will reign over the court of “Up, Up and Away: Across the USA”. The Senior Royalty of Ashley Ribbon Jones and Lucas Cash Flynn will reign over the court of “Viva Las Maifest”.
The Maifest parade through downtown Brenham will start at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. KWHI will have a live broadcast starting at 10 a.m. and will livestream it on Facebook, sponsored by Mr. Gatti’s Pizza in Brenham. The festival grounds will open after the parade for music, dancing, beer tasting and games.
This weekend’s live entertainment will feature The Czechaholics and the Nite Moves Band on Friday, followed on Saturday by Isaak Klaus and the Lederhosen Junkies, Das ist Lustig, Alli & the Polka Dots and the Brown Sugar Band.
Admission to the festival grounds at Fireman’s Park is free.
