BRENHAM MAIFEST KICKS OFF WITH PICNIC
The Brenham Maifest officially got its 134th celebration underway on Wednesday with the Friends of Maifest Kick-off Picnic at Fireman’s Park.
The picnic honors the sponsors of Maifest and the volunteers who work to make Maifest a reality each year. Attendees were treated to German food, refreshments and entertainment, as well as a children’s Maipole dance and ribbon cutting.
There was also an auction supporting the Maifest Kids Helping Kids program, and four local students received $1,000 scholarships from the Brenham Maifest Association: Zane Aschenbeck, Katie Seeker, Kaylee Sodolak and Dalton Winkelmann.
Today (Thursday) will be the first day of the carnival on the Maifestival grounds. The carnival opens at 5 p.m. today and tomorrow (Friday) and at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Coronation ceremonies begin tomorrow with the Senior Coronation at 7 p.m. The Junior Coronation will be held Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Guests will need to abide by a clear bag policy.

Saturday opens with the parade through downtown Brenham. KWHI will broadcast the parade live starting at 10 a.m. and will have a livestream on the KWHI Facebook page, sponsored by Mr. Gatti’s Pizza in Brenham.
