NUMEROUS STORM-RELATED CALLS AMONG 12 TOTAL FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT. THURSDAY
Thursday’s severe weather led to a busy evening for local first responders.
The Brenham Fire Department alone responded to 12 calls on Thursday, 10 of them within a 2-hour period during the brunt of the storm.
The department says most of the calls were for downed power lines and tree limbs in power lines. One call was for a tree that fell onto a house and caused major structural damage. The homeowners were unharmed, but were removed from the home for the night.
Later at night, the department was called around 9:45 p.m. to the 1400 block of Cyndi Circle for a report of a power line arcing. Units arrived to find a tree limb sparking on a power line. The City of Brenham Electric Department was on location removing the limb. Firefighters returned to service once the limb was removed.
Shortly after 10:30 p.m., BFD members received a report of an alarm sounding in the 1100 block of Davy Street. Nothing was showing from the exterior of the home. Units made contact with the homeowner, who advised she was straightening her hair, and that caused the alarm to sound.
