AREA UNEMPLOYMENT RATES DROP IN APRIL

  

Local and area counties reported positive employment data for the month of April, with another month of declining jobless rates.

Data from the Texas Workforce Commission shows Washington County’s unemployment rate logged at 3.3 percent for April, down from 3.9 percent in March.

The county’s 543 unemployed residents last month were down from 630 in March.

Overall employment improved from 15,692 people in March to 16,108 in April.  Over the same timeframe, the total civilian labor force went up from 16,322 to 16,651.

In April 2023, the county’s jobless rate was 3.4 percent, with 536 people out of work.

The State of Texas reported a slight increase in unemployment from March to April, going from 3.9 percent to 4 percent. 

April’s unemployment rates for surrounding counties include:

  • Austin County – 3.1 percent, down from 3.7 percent in March.
  • Brazos County – 2.5 percent, down from 3 percent.
  • Burleson County – 3.2 percent, down from 3.7 percent.
  • Fayette County – 2.9 percent, down from 3.4 percent in March.
  • Grimes County – 3.6 percent, down from 4.4 percent.
  • Lee County – 2.8 percent, down from 3.4 percent.
  • Waller County – 4.1 percent, down from 4.7 percent.
