ELECTION DAY FOR PRIMARY RUNOFF
Election Day is here for the May primary runoff election.
Today (Tuesday) is the last day that voters will be able to participate in the races that advanced past the March primary after no candidate received over a 50 percent majority of votes. In Washington County, those include Texas House District 12 and State Board of Education District 10 on the Republican ballot, and the 14th Court of Appeals District, Place 3 on the Democratic ballot.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at eight polling places in Washington County.
Precinct 1:
- 101, 109 – Friedens Church of Washington, 20322 FM 1155.
- 104, 115, 117, 121 – Washington County Expo Event Center, 1305 East Blue Bell Road in Brenham.
Precinct 2:
- 203 – Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department, 5295 Main Street in Chappell Hill.
- 202, 205, 208 – Brenham VFW Hall, 1200 East Tom Green Street in Brenham.
Precinct 3:
- 307, 320 – Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library, 100 Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway in Brenham.
- 311, 312 – St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill, 8201 Old Gay Hill Road.
Precinct 4:
- 406, 418, 419 – Blinn College Student Center, 1007 Walter Schwartz Way in Brenham.
- 410, 413 – Burton Community Center, 13100 West Washington Street.
Early voting in the runoff saw 1,942 participants, consisting of 1,880 Republicans and 62 Democrats.
For Texas House District 12, Trey Wharton faces Ben Bius to determine who will secure the Republican nomination against Democrat Dee Howard Mullins and Libertarian Robert Profili in November. Wharton and Bius finished first and second in the March primary, with John Harvey Slocum coming in third in a tight race.
The State Board of Education District 10 seat is currently held by Republican Tom Maynard, who is challenged by Mary Bone after advancing to a runoff as the top two of three candidates in the primary. The winner between the two will go up in November against Democrat Raquel Saenz Ortiz, Daniel Caldwell of the Green Party and Libertarian Gerald McAlexander.
The 14th Court of Appeals District, Place 3 race features challenger Velda Renita Faulkner and incumbent Jerry Zimmerer, who placed first and second out of four candidates in the Democratic primary. The runoff winner will face Republican Chad Bridges in November.
