BLINN WINS FIRST EVER BASEBALL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

  

A week long string of games in Grand Junction, Colorado resulted in the Blinn Buccaneer Baseball Team capping off a dream season with the program's first ever National Championship.

The Bucs, who came into the tournament as the #8 ranked team in the country, defeated #4 ranked Northwest Florida State College 12-5 to capture the title. This came one night after getting past #2 ranked Georgia Highlands to get to the championship game.

Lucas Davenport , a Freshman from Prosper, pitched a complete nine-inning game allowing 12 hits, five earned runs, no walks, and eight strikeouts on 130 pitches.

Blinn jumped out to an early six run lead with two in the first, and four in the second. NW Florida cut it to 6-4 with a run in the second and three in the third.

Blinn responded with one in the fourth, and three in the fifth to make it 10-4. NW Florida scored one in the eighth, but then Blinn got two more in the ninth for good measure.

After giving up those four early runs, Davenport settled down and gave up only one run over the final six innings of the game.

It was another big night for Tanner Reaves. The sophomore from Bonham, had four hits including two doubles, a home run, four runs scored, and three RBIs. He also broke the NJCAA record for hits in the World Series with 18.

Blinn finishes the season with a record of 47-17

The Bucs set team records for the season with 101 hits and 86 runs scored.
