According to General Manager of Public Utilities William Bisette, an SUV hit the hydrant by the intersection of Tom Green Street and Market Street around 3 p.m., which twisted the pipe going back to the main.  When workers arrived, a valve broke.

Bisette said water was shut down by 5 p.m.  Water was restored and the valve was repaired around 10 p.m.

Crews are back onsite today (Monday) to finalize repairs, as the fire hydrant was still out this morning.  Tom Green Street is closed from South Market Street to Baylor Street.

Bisette said the city plans to be done by the end of the day today.
