HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY AFTER FATHER OF CONVENIENCE STORE SHOOTING SUSPECT FOUND DEAD
Investigation into the shooting and killing of a dog outside a Navasota convenience store has elevated into a homicide investigation, after the suspect’s father was found dead.
The Navasota Police Department arrested 29-year-old Joshua Land of Waller on Saturday after a report of shots fired at a store in the 8700 block of Highway 6 led to the discovery of a deceased dog in the parking lot. Land was charged with Animal Cruelty, Deadly Conduct, Disorderly Conduct and Possession of Marijuana.
The department issued a press release today (Tuesday) stating that as investigation continued into the shooting, police on Monday requested a welfare check on Land’s father in Waller. A short time later, officers with the Waller Police Department informed Navasota police that Land’s father was found deceased, and the scene is being investigated as a homicide.
According to Waller County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Shelby Braziel, no charges have been filed yet with the sheriff’s office. The body has been sent off for autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Navasota police are meeting with the Waller County Sheriff’s Office to review evidence and assist in their investigation.
