TEXAS STATE LIBRARY & ARCHIVES COMMISSION TO MEET IN BRENHAM FRIDAY

The Texas State Library and Archives Commission will hold its annual June meeting in Brenham on Friday.

The Commission will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library.  The meeting is open to the public.

Brad Tegeler of Brenham, who serves on the Commission, told KWHI that the Fortnightly Club of Brenham invited the agency to host a meeting at the library following a visit by Commission Chair Martha Wong.

In a press release, Commission Director and Librarian Gloria Meraz said the Commission is “thrilled” to meet in Brenham, as the city has “a robust library that offers the community wonderful programming for all ages.”

The Commission supports libraries, educational activities and information services throughout the state.  It also provides access to statewide e-resources and awards funds every year to libraries undertaking innovative projects.

The seven members of the Commission, who are appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate, serve staggered six-year terms.  Commissioners are responsible for reviewing and approving the agency’s major policies, strategic plans, budgets and appropriations requests, contracts, internal audits, library grants and records management rules, and for overseeing the preservation of and access to the Texas State Archives.
