RICE PROFESSOR TO SPEAK AT LIFETIME LEARNING BRENHAM
Lifetime Learning Brenham will have a special guest speaker at their next meeting later this month.
They are going to welcome Pulitzer Prize winning historian W. Caleb McDaniel as to their June 21st luncheon.
Dr. McDaniel is Professor of History at Rice University. His book Sweet Taste of Liberty tells the story of Henrietta Wood who was born into slavery, attained her freedom, and was later kidnapped and re-enslaved.
After the Civil War ended, she sued and won reparations.
According to Lifetime Learning, McDaniel’s telling of Wood’s story demonstrates how African-Americans have fought to be free and made whole since the beginning of their tragic enslavement in the United States.
Lifetime Learning Brenham meets June 21, 2024 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Cannery located at 314 East Alamo Street.
They do ask that you register at lifetimelearningbrenham.org by June 18th.
The cost to attend is $25
