JUVENILE TO BE TRIED AS ADULT IN FATAL BRENHAM SHOOTING

A juvenile arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Brenham in April of last year will be tried as an adult.

Jotore Moore
(Washington Co. Jail)

On Friday, Jotore Moore of Old Washington, who is now 17, was certified by the Washington County Court at Law to be tried as an adult on the charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Moore was originally detained in May of 2023 for his alleged involvement in a shooting that occurred inside the city of Brenham on April 1, of last year outside the V.F.W. Hall which resulted in the death of 17-year-old Marquis Williams. Moore was 16 years old at the time of the alleged shooting.

At the conclusion of the two-day hearing, Moore was taken into custody and bond was set at $500,000 total, $250,000 per count. Counsel for Moore has announced their intention to appeal this decision.

This case was investigated by the Brenham Police Department with assistance from the Texas Rangers and, pending appeal, will be handled by the Washington County District Attorney’s Office.

This is the second juvenile that has been certified to face charges as an adult in Washington County since 2020. Truvon Sweed was previously presented for certification on the charge of murder for the death of Derrick Anthony Davis in March of 2020. As an adult, Truvon Sweed pled guilty to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on December 7, of last year and was sentenced to 10 years in Prison.

  1. 10 years for murder??!! He should be on death row! Talk about getting away with murder…

  2. Sad. Just sad. But, he made his choice, and now hopefully he will go away forca long time.

  3. Yet, as a community and as parents, we will worry more about how our children do on the STAAR test than about helping them face their biggest test, life itself.

    1. This country could care less about our children killing each other. People we have genocide right here in this country
