Baylor Scott & White Health (BSW) and BlueCross BlueShield of Texas (BCBS) have reached a temporary contract extension.

The two have announced an agreement to extend provider and facility contracts until October 1st.

The extension means BSW providers, hospitals and other facilities will remain in network for BCBS members as work continues on finalizing a long-term agreement.

The current contracts were set to expire on Monday.  If the two do not reach an agreement by the new deadline, BCBS would no longer be in-network for BSW doctors and facilities.

  1. Baylor Scott & White is playing a game of chicken. They are trying to get more money and think this tactic will help.

It has caused me to lose trust that they will remain my provider. I don’t want to be in a situation where I suddenly have to find a new doctor, yet that is precisely what they have told me may happen.

It is wiser for me to start looking for another doctor now when I can organize my search and am not under the time pressure of having to find one immediately. I think everyone who has Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas and has Scott and White doctors would be well advised to consider changing to another provider before they are told that their insurance will no longer accept Scott and White.
