WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO CONSIDER JAIL MEDICAL ITEMS

Washington County Commissioners will meet Tuesday to take up a pair of items related to jail medical services and the county’s new contract with MedHealth.

Commissioners will consider pay rate assignments for jail medical staff and a contract with CorEMR for jail medical records.

The court on Thursday approved a contract with MedHealth to be the county’s next medical services provider at the jail, after having worked with CorrHealth since 2021.

MedHealth will provide the jail medical director and nurse practitioner, while the county will provide the nursing staff, including a health services administrator, two correctional licensed vocational nurses, and an emergency medical technician.  The pay rates for those four county positions are what commissioners will vote on.

The court will then revisit a contract with CorEMR for electronic jail medical records after tabling it during Thursday’s meeting.

Additionally on Tuesday, commissioners will hear a presentation from the Faith Mission SMART-CARE Kids program, as well as the Office of Emergency Management’s quarterly report.  They will also take action on the 2024 Chappell Hill 4th of July parade permit application.

In other business, the court will:

  • Potentially approve a new bond for Jacob Newsome as reserve deputy sheriff.
  • Discuss a formal notice for fiber installation by Industry Telephone Company in the Jaeger Road right-of-way in Precinct 4.
  • Discuss formal notices for overhead electric line installation by Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative in the right-of-way of Quebe Road in Precinct 3 and Upshaw Road in Precinct 4.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.

  1. My point of view its a shame that we threat offenders with such special treatment as to have their own medical staff while visiting our jail till they make bail. Who decided this maddness? We have Paramedics on every corner in this county. What makes these offenders so special? We are taxing law abiding citizens till they can’t afford to pay attention and criminals get their own medical staff. Bizarre!
