The Brenham H-E-B store celebrated Clarence Muegge Monday. Muegge has served H-E-B for 55 years.
Muegge was hired at H-E-B in 1969 at $1.35 an hour, as he was still attending Brenham High School when he first joined. His first positions included checking out groceries, carrying out items and stocking products. He later moved to produce and assisted in the deli section. He currently unloads trucks and helps with dairy, in addition to general receiving and stocking.
H-E-B’s presence in Brenham has changed quite a bit during Muegge’s time at the company. When he first started, the store was formerly in the location of AutoZone on South Market Street and did not sell beer or wine. It then moved further down South Market Street, in the Health and Human Services office next to Higgins South. H-E-B moved to its third and current location on South Day Street in 1999.
With 55 years of service, Muegge plans to continue working at least until the end of this year. He says his faith has allowed him to push through and keep going strong.
