TEXAS EAST STATE SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT IN EL CAMPO

MINOR GIRLS

The Burleson County Minor Girls captured the State Championship with a 4-1 victory over Rockport-Fulton last (Tuesday) night.

Burleson County jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning. Rockport-Fulton cut the lead in half with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning to make it a 2-1 game.

Burleson County came back and added insurance runs in the fifth and the sixth innings to get the win.

Over the course of winning the District 13 , Section 1, and State Tournaments, they finished with a record of 13-1. Their lone loss came to Washington County on June 23 in the District Tournament. However, they later avenged the loss by beating Washington County 4-3 on June 25 and 12-7 for the Championship on June 26.

MAJOR GIRLS

The Columbus Major Girls fought their way up through the loser's beat Hallettville twice last (Tuesday) night to take the State Championship.

In the first game, Columbus jumped out an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Both teams then traded runs in the fourth to give Columbus a 4-1 lead.

Then, Hallettsville scored three runs in the top of the sixth to tie it up. Columbus walked it off with a run in the bottom of the sixth to win it 5-4, and send it to winner-take-all game.

It took extra innings, but Columbus overcame Hallettsville 4-3 to win the State Championship.

Hallettsville struck first with a run in the top of the first inning. Columbus came back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-1 lead.

Hallettsville tied the game at 3-3 with two runs in the sixth inning.

It would stay that way until the bottom of the eighth when Columbus got one final run to walk it off for the second game in a row, 4-3.

Columbus finished the District 13, Section 1, and Texas East State Little League State Tournament with a 10-1 record.
