Brenham ISD has chosen Kellie Fontenot as the new Special Education Director.

Kellie Fontenot
(Brenham ISD)

Fontenot’s promotion, announced in a social media post on Wednesday, comes after having served 28 of her 29 years in education at Brenham ISD.  Those include 10 years as a teacher, 16 years as a diagnostician and two years as the special education coordinator.

Fontenot is a 1991 graduate of Brenham High School.  She received a Bachelor of Science in Applied Learning and Development from the University of Texas at Austin in 1995.  She went on to earn a Master’s in Instructional Leadership and a diagnostician certificate in 2007 from Sam Houston State University.

According to Brenham ISD’s website, the district’s Special Education Department serves over 600 students throughout the district, providing inclusive support, speech therapy and other related services.

Prior to Fontenot, special education was overseen by Christine Johnson, who was hired in May 2021 as the Special Education Services Director.  Her role later expanded as the Executive Director of Leading and Learning, and she now serves as the Chief of Staff.
