BURTON, SOMERVILLE, AND SNOOK FACING A NEW DISTRICT IN 2024

Three local high school football teams will be looking at a new district this fall, and renewing some old rivalries.

The Burton Panthers, the Somerville Yeguas, and the Snook Blue Jays are moving from a six-team district to an eight-team district. Their new home, District 13-2A Division II will also include Bartlett, Granger, Iola, McDade (who is moving up from Six-Man Football), and Milano.

BURTON

The Burton Panthers are entering another season under Head Coach Jason Hodde. They return 24 lettermen, while having lost only six from last year's team.

The Panthers bring back seven starters on offense and eight on defense from a young team that went 6-5 overall, and 5-1 in district.

According to the DCTF writers, players to watch include OL/DL D'Mitry Schulte, OL/DL Daniel Casas, RB/LB Brady Griffin, QB/DB Drayton Oakes, and TE Colton Broesche.

Other prospects for Burton include: QB/DB K.D. Patterson, RB/DB Malik Bibby, OL/DL Houston Hodde, and RB/LB Rueben Rodriguez.

SOMERVILLE

The Somerville Yeguas are preparing for their third season under Head Coach Phillip Roberts. After making the playoffs two years ago, the Yeguas suffered a set back last season, where they went 2-8 overall and 2-4 district.

They return 23 lettermen compared to just six lettermen lost.

The Yeguas also return seven starters on both sides of the ball. RB/LB Keith Crawford, who transferred from Brenham, is the DCTF Writers pick to be the Offensive MVP.

Other players to watch include: QB/DB Ian Teague, OL/DL Cameron Surovik, RB/DL Keke Daniels, OL/DL Chris Deere, and OL/DL Moses Stickel.

WR/DB Kyle Brooks and RB/WR Colt Holton were named as top juniors, while WR/LB Semaj Pennygraph is name as the top sophomore.

SNOOK

The Snook Blue Jays begin the new district with new Head Coach Nolan Lanham at the helm.

Lanham was hired in April to replace former coach Dylan Conway, who took an assistant coaching job in Weimar. Lanham comes to Snook from Nocona ISD, where he had been the offensive coordinator for the past two years.

The Blue Jays return 18 players after losing just six from a team that went 1-9 overall, and 1-5 in district. They are bringing back eight starters on offense and seven starters on defense.

The DCTF Players to Watch are WR/DB Brett Withem, QB/LB Jacob Castaneda, RB/DL Dominick Hankins, RB/LB Jordan Price, WR/DB Liam Zequeria, and TE/LB Silas Hetland.

OL Trey Daniell was named as the top junior, while LB John Carr was named as the top sophomore.
