A police chase in Navasota ended up with the suspect getting arrested on multiple charges.

On Thursday around 3pm, Navasota Police were investigating a traffic crash in the 1000 block of Church Street.

While the investigation was going on, an officer observed a Nissan vehicle parked in a spot with a strong odor of marijuana emitting from it.

The driver attempted to flee in his vehicle, but instead, got out, and ran away on foot. The officer pursued the driver for several blocks while requesting assistance.

Several Navasota Police Officers and investigators arrived in the 900 block of South La Salle Street and formed a perimeter.

The driver was seen fleeing through a business and then crossing over a fence into a residential backyard. Officers were able to locate the driver, who was later identified as 34-year-old Dexter Pratt of Navasota, hiding in a storage shed, and he was taken into custody.

Once Pratt was placed into the back of the patrol car, a search of his Nissan was conducted. Officers recovered over 24 ounces of marijuana, 19 grams of crack cocaine, and evidence of narcotics distributing.

Pratt was transported to the Grimes County Jail, where he was charged with Evading Arrest and Detention with a Vehicle, Possession of Marijuana Greater than Four Ounces, but less than Five Pounds, and Manufacturing and Delivery of a Controlled Substance greater than 4 Grams, but less than 200 Grams.
