BURTON SCHOOL BOARD TO HOLD PUBLIC HEARING FOR BUDGET, TAX RATE

The Burton School Board will hold a called meeting on Wednesday for a public hearing on Burton ISD’s proposed budget and tax rate.

Following the public hearing, trustees will vote on adopting the new budget and tax rate for the 2024-25 school year.

The budget presented during the board’s regular meeting on August 12th comes out to $14,905,972.

The tax rate is proposed at $0.9455 per $100 valuation, made up of $0.7355 for maintenance and operations (M&O) and $0.2100 for interest and sinking (I&S).  The rate is above the existing $0.9380 per $100, with the proposed M&O rate being lower than the current $0.7380 but higher than the present I&S rate of $0.2000.

Following action on the budget and tax rate, trustees will consider budget amendments for the 2023-24 year, a $500 insurance supplement to employees, and a resolution regarding nonpayment of invoices from DSA, Inc.  There is also an item for possible approval of bond project bids.

At the conclusion of the regular session, an executive session may be held for trustees to consult with an attorney and discuss personnel, security and real property.

The board will meet Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the Burton High School cafeteria.
