BHS STUDENT ORGANIZES SUPPLY DRIVE FOR CPS RAINBOW ROOM

  

A Brenham High School student gave back to her community over the summer by helping out the Rainbow Room at Child Protective Services.

Madisyn Maynard, who is a junior this year, has an aunt that currently works for CPS and her mother also previously worked there.

Maynard heard through the years about the help that the Rainbow Room brings to children and families in some of their hardest times.

In the Rainbow Room, CPS caseworkers can get supplies for children who are victims of abuse or neglect, including clothing, school supplies, diapers and much more. The Washington County Child Welfare Board oversees the local Rainbow Room that is located inside the Washington County CPS office and is managed by local CPS personnel.  

Maynard worked with several area businesses, printed flyers, and placed them all around the community advertising the “Sunshine Drive to fill the Washington County Rainbow Room.”

Donation boxes were placed at Bluebonnet Abstract & Title Company, Citizens State Bank of Brenham, Hodde & Hodde Land Surveying, and Genesis Yoga.  

Approximately $1,400 worth of items and monetary donations were collected throughout the drive, which Maynard was able to present to the Washington County Child Welfare Board at their meeting on August 19th.  Board President Johanna Fatheree was thankful for the great response and amount of donations received for the Rainbow Room. 

Although this drive has ended, the Rainbow Room accepts donations year-round.  100% of donations support the local Rainbow Room and supplies are used for Washington County children. Please note that the Rainbow Room is only able to accept new items.

• Household cleaning supplies
• Blankets
• Pack ‘n’ Play portable play yards
