TWELVE CALLS BETWEEN SATURDAY, EARLY MONDAY FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT.

Labor Day weekend has been busy thus far for the Brenham Fire Department, responding to 12 calls between Saturday and early this (Monday) morning.

Six of the calls came from Saturday, including one just shy of 11:30 a.m., where firefighters responded to a transportation incident at West Tom Green Street and South Day Street.  They arrived and found a two-vehicle accident with minor damage.  Units checked for injuries and provided first aid.  No fluids were leaking, and the department returned to service after both vehicles were removed from the roadway.

Shortly before 1 p.m., BFD members were dispatched to a home in the 1300 block of Tom Dee Street for a fire investigation.  They found a BBQ pit in the back yard causing the smoke in the area, but were unable to contact the homeowner.

Around 1:15 p.m., Brenham firefighters were called out for a grass fire in the 11500 block of Highway 290 East.  As they were responding, the Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department made location to discover a small fire that got out of control.  The Chappell Hill department cancelled Brenham units.

Approaching 2:30 p.m., BFD personnel received a report of a gasoline spill at a gas station in the 2100 block of Highway 290 West.  They discovered a small amount of gas on the ground and found that the gas company overfilled their tanks.  The area was blocked off, and firefighters advised the gas station to have a company come out to remove the fuel.

The department’s final two calls on Saturday were gas leaks, one just before 5:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of South Chappell Hill Street and the other around 10 p.m. in the 1200 block of Burleson Street.  In both instances, firefighters and the City of Brenham Gas Department made location and found a small leak around the meter, which the gas department repaired.

Around 5:30 a.m. Sunday, firefighters were called out to a transportation incident at FM 389 and Farmers Road.  They found a single vehicle on its passenger side, with EMS treating the patient.  No fluids were leaking and the vehicle was off the roadway, so the department returned to the station.

Shortly after 1 p.m., units went out to Brenham Trails, 2502 South Market Street, for a report of children stuck in an elevator.  They found the elevator stuck between the second and third floor, and were able to open the elevator door and get the two children out.

Nearing 3:15 p.m., BFD members were sent to a home in the 2200 block of Springwood Drive for an alarm sounding, but while they were enroute, dispatch advised that proper code was given for cancellation.

A few minutes past 5 p.m., the department responded to a transportation incident in the 2900 block of Old Independence Road.  There, units found a single-vehicle accident.  They checked for injuries, but no one was hurt, so they returned to service once the vehicle was removed from the roadway.

Around 1:15 a.m. today, firefighters received a report of a power line on fire in the 600 block of Peachtree Drive.  After making location, they found a small flame on top of a transformer, so they stood by until the City of Brenham Electric Department arrived.  After consulting with the electric department, firefighters cleared the scene.

Just past 2:15 a.m., the department was called to an alarm sounding at Blue Bell Creameries, 1101 South Blue Bell Road.  Nothing was showing from the exterior of the building, and after walking the area, BFD personnel found no signs of smoke or fire, so they reset the alarm and returned to the station.
