TWO WEEKEND CALLS FOR CHAPPELL HILL VFD

The Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department responded to two calls over Labor Day weekend.

Just before 11:15 a.m. Saturday, firefighters were called to a two-vehicle accident in front of Chappell Hill Sausage, 4255 Sausage Lane.  The department says one vehicle pulled out in front of the other and was rear-ended.  Firefighters performed traffic control and disconnected the battery in one of the vehicles, due to a decent amount of damage.  No one was transported.

Around 1:15 p.m. Saturday, volunteers were dispatched to the 11500 block of Highway 290 East for a grass fire.  When they made location, they found it was a builder burning treated lumber about 20-30 feet from a new house.  The Brenham Fire Department was initially called for mutual aid but was cancelled once Chappell Hill units arrived on scene.  Firefighters put out the fire and turned the scene over to law enforcement, who contacted environmental.
