The truck is a 2015 Pierce Velocity that was previously used by the Spring Fire Department.  It holds about 750 gallons of water, has foam capabilities and can seat six firefighters at a time when responding to calls.

The truck replaces the Chappell Hill VFD’s former engine that struggled with frequent maintenance issues over the past few years, leading to costly repairs for the department.

According to a blog post shared by the department, the old truck most recently suffered a critical failure after responding to an accident in early August.  After consulting with mechanics, the department said there were “no timely signs of the truck being repairable or operational.”

The department used a rental truck while it determined its path forward.  Ultimately, it decided to sell the old fire engine and replace it with a used one.

The department then discovered a truck that had not yet gone on the used market, and its members voted to finance the purchase of the truck.  The fire engine was priced at $365,000, compared to the cost of a brand-new one that the department said “would not have been affordable.”

Firefighters invite the community to come check out the engine at upcoming events or reach out to them for a tour.  They also thank the public for its continued support.
