The Blinn College women’s soccer team got back into the win column and earned its first Region XIV victory of the season with a 4-0 shutout of Northeast Texas Community College on Friday in Mount Pleasant, Texas.

The Buccaneers improved to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in region play.

“It was very important for us to get the win today and I’m glad we did,” Blinn head coach Alexandria Jackson said. “Getting a shutout was extremely important for our confidence as well. The players deserved the result, but now we have to recover quickly and compete on Saturday.”

The Bucs overwhelmed the Eagles with 30 shots, including 16 on goal. Northeast was unable to generate much of an attack as the Blinn defense held the hosts without a shot, making for a quiet day for goalkeepers Brooke Assur and Jordan Clark.

Blinn opened the scoring when sophomore forward Alyssa Wright gathered up an assist on a through ball from freshman midfielder Allison Ford and buried it in the 22nd minute.

Freshman defender Karla Gonzalez made it 2-0 with an unassisted tally in the 31st minute.

Following a slow start to the second half, freshman forward Kirsten Gasaway went unassisted to the outside of the box and found the back of the net in the 67th minute.

The offensive showcase was capped by a goal from sophomore forward MaKayla Police in the 85th minute. Wright provided the assist on a cross.

Up next for the Bucs is a tough region home test against No. 3 Tyler Junior College scheduled for 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, at Rankin Field in Brenham, Texas.
